Principles of ESM Analysis
Oct. 26 | 2 p.m. ET

One of the most common shortcomings of Electronic Surveillance (ES) systems is the failure to accurately determine the Direction of Arrival (DOA) of radar signals. DOA errors typically lead to multiple tracks being created for each radar and to confusion on the Operator’s screen.

Contributors to DOA error include equipment considerations, such as ESM antenna separation. These errors are quantifiable and solutions to mitigate such errors will be described in the webinar. However, DOA errors due to multipath interference from objects and surfaces in the environment of both the radar and of the platform on which the ES system is mounted are more difficult to recognize. This webinar shows how intra-pulse multipath effects manifest themselves in various situations and for different types of ES systems and offers solutions for the mitigation of such errors.

The 350th Spectrum Warfare Wing – leading US Air Force efforts to dominate the electromagnetic spectrum

In this episode of From the Crows Nest, host Ken Miller sits down with Colonel Joshua Koslov, Commander of the US Air Force’s 350th Spectrum Warfare Wing (SWW), out of Eglin Air Force Base near Pensacola, Florida. Now entering its third year, the SWW was established to address persistent gaps in US Air Force EW that were highlighted across numerous studies and reports. The SWW is paving the way for better leadership and technology integration, but also reinvigorating a culture of EMS awareness in the Joint Force.

Ken and Col. Koslov dive into the mission of the SWW, such as personnel shortages, effective training and assessing and enhancing and the need for EW readiness and integrating EW capabilities into joint force operations. They also discuss the activation and role of the 950th Spectrum Warfare Group and the mission of the 68th Electronic Warfare Squadron (EWS) FMS Reprogramming Center, which supports foreign military sales partners by providing electronic warfare mission data. This mission directly enhances the combat capabilities and survivability of US and coalition warfighters. Finally, Ken and Col. Koslov talk about an October 2023 activation ceremony for Detachment 1, 350th Spectrum Warfare Wing and Detachment 1, 87th Electronic Warfare Squadron, at Warner Robins Air Force Base, GA.
