Space Force Makes History With All-Female 2 SOPS Crew

The Air Force has been providing precise position, navigation and timing for more than 25 years, however a first-of-its-kind crew assumed command and control of its newest satellite this week.

Schriever’s 2nd Space Operations Squadron, the providers of GPS signals to billions of users worldwide, made history July 23 when a crew of eight women space operators gained satellite control authority of satellite vehicle number 76.

SDR For Strategic COMINT Applications
March 23 | 2 p.m. ET

Software defined radio "SDR" technology has been around for decades. Some of the benefits have been limited to the COMINT receiver vendors. In this presentation we focus more on the benefits for the end-user. We go through some general advantages of SDR technology and more specific benefits it brings to strategic COMINT monitoring systems. We will look at SDR enabled COMINT receiver functionality and how to combine it with a modular HW architecture to improve the reusability of the equipment for various missions. The presentation examines how to use SDR technologies with related technologies and concludes with an outlook of possible SDR enabled functionality in COMINT.

Navigating Our Dependency on GPS

The US relies highly on GPS, navigation timing systems and satellites. And recently, GPS was labeled as a single point of failure for America by the Director of Resilience on the National Security Council. To discuss the impacts of this, Ken Miller talks with Dana Goward about the significance of GPS today and the potential risks posed by interference and spoofing.

As President of the Resilient Navigation and Timing Foundation and a member of the National Space-Based Positioning, Navigation and Timing Advisory Board, Dana provides invaluable insight into the world of GPS technology and its vulnerabilities. Ken and Dana also discuss how GPS jamming is unfolding in global conflicts and how the US can better protect critical infrastructure from attacks on GPS signals.

HOC Spotlight: Women in EW

In celebration of Women’s History Month, this episode honors the contributions of three women whose discoveries, inventions and insights made a lasting impact on electromagnetic spectrum operations and, in some cases, helped turn the tides of war: Florence Violet McKenzie, Joan Curran and Hedy LaMarr. To help us tell these stories, we turn to Author David Duffy and Author Kimberly Moravec. The guest narrator is Ms. Shelley Frost, the first woman Executive Director of the Association of Old Crows. While we celebrate these and other women's achievements during Women’s History Month, we must also acknowledge that women in Electronic Warfare have faced significant barriers in their careers, even barriers to simply be considered equal members of society. This episode is dedicated to all women of Electronic Warfare – past, present and future.
