Requirements are a fundamental part of systems engineering, but are often poorly understood, particularly in the context of Electronic Warfare systems. The goal of this presentation is to provide the audience an understanding of requirements engineering as it applies to EW programs. This will include a discussion of how EW systems are measured, how those metrics can be translated into system requirements, and qualities of a good requirement. The presentation concludes with a discussion of requirements from EW projects, their impact on system design, and how they can be improved.

On July 18, the AOC SIGINT Industry Partner Project (SIGINT IPP) will hold an event, entitled “Winning the EMS: The Future of Army SIGINT.” The event will take place on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, and will study how the Army is prepared to fight in the EMS across DOTMLPF, specifically discussing SIGINT/EW/CO requirements, training, and organization. The Army is making significant progress, but there remain key challenges to address and opportunities on which to capitalize to have a decisive advantage in future warfare.

This two-session event, featuring a congressional panel discussion and an Industry Solutions Forum, will draw leadership and expertise from the US Army Intelligence Center of Excellence (ICOE), the Cyber Center of Excellence (CCoE), the PEO Intelligence Electronic Warfare and Sen- sors (IEW&S), and the defense industry. Both sessions qualify as "Widely Attended Events" and are open to military, government, and industry. The event is FREE, but registration is required.

The first session is a Congressional Panel Discussion, hosted by Rep. Jody Hice (GA-10), a member of the EW Working Group and House Armed Services Committee (HASC). This session will feature a keynote speaker (Lt. Gen. Scott Berrier, Deputy Chief of Staff, G-2, invited) and panel to discuss developments in the integration of SIGINT, EW, and Cyberspace Operations, as well as the US Army SIGINT Strategy.  The second session immediately following is the separate Industry Solutions Forum, which will feature an industry showcase (available to sponsors), a networking reception, and a brief program featuring Army EW/SIGINT leadership.

To date, the AOC Virtual Series has steered clear of mathematics, but that is about to change! This webinar will tackle the radar and jammer range equations head on to unpack the many layers of information buried in these important results.

By the end of this presentation, attendees will have gained a clearer understanding of how the parameters of radar and EW systems interact to determine system performance - the fundamental objective of the radar and jammer range equations. Factors including antenna gain, radar cross section (RCS), effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP), coherent processing time, range (yes, really!), and others will be explored to understand what they actually mean in real systems.

This course will cover the unified presentation of the fundamental design principles of LPI radar. This includes a thorough treatment of the numerous types of wideband modulations that can be used to reduce the  probability of a noncooperative intercept receiver’s ability to intercept and extract the waveform modulation parameters (which may easily lead to an effective jammer response). We will also cover the intercept receiver time-frequency and bi-frequency signal processing techniques that can extract the wideband waveform parameters. Autonomous classification and parameter extraction algorithms are also an objective such that a real-time jammer response can be developed – just what we did not want to happen!

The Senate Armed Services Committee passed a version of the $716 billion defense policy bill Thursday that emphasizes investment in future warfare — with provisions on cyber, hypersonic weapons and artificial intelligence. Its National Defense Authorization Act would sprinkle $600 million more than the Trump administration budget requests into science, technology and testing programs, to include hypersonics, space constellation technologies, rocket propulsion, directed energy and quantum information science — the “key to advancing warfighting capabilities,” according to a summary of the bill released Thursday. (Defense News)

U.S. Army leaders are asking industry and academia for information on newly developed enabling technologies in electronic warfare (EW) solutions that might be effective against increasingly capable enemies in conflicts on land, in space, in the air, on and below the ocean, and in cyberspace. Officials of the Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC) Intelligence and Information Warfare Directorate (I2WD) at Aberdeen Proving Ground issued a sources-sought notice on Wednesday (W56KGU-18-R-T011) for the Multi Domain Electronic Warfare Capabilities (MDEWC) project. (Military & Aerospace Electronics)

One of the F-15C's known shortfalls is its dated cockpit, which includes a spattering of 'steam' gauges, radar scope, radar warning receiver display, and a small color multi-function display. Compared to fighters built even in the latter 1980s, it's archaic. Now it has come to our attention that the USAF has been upgrading their F-15C Eagle's with a large multi-function display that slots in where the F-15C's engine instruments and radar warning receiver were installed. This little talked about enhancement is known as the Passive Attack Display, or PAD. (The Drive)
