CALL FOR PAPERS: EW Saudi Arabia 2013

With constantly evolving and increasingly rapid advances in Electronic Warfare (EW), a concerted long-term effort is required to keep up to date with opportunities, threats and countermeasures. This new EW conference series for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will cover the latest topics in EW and its critical role in defense. Developed and tailored specifically for the Kingdom, AOC EW Saudi Arabia 2013 is set to build on the strong foundations laid at the highly successful Nov 2012 AOC EW Malaysia conference and exhibition, which was fully supported by the Royal Malaysian Armed Forces and attended by 200 leading military, government, academic and industrial leaders and thinkers from 20 countries.

CALL FOR PAPERS
Each day will begin with a Keynote Speaker to set the stage for the day’s presentations and discussions. Each session will include presentations from a variety of invited military, government, academic and industry speakers supporting the session theme of The Critical Role of Electronic Warfare in Defence. There are a limited number of opportunities for military, government and academic speakers to make a 25-minute unclassified presentation in English at EW 2013 Saudi Arabia coherent with the theme and suitable for one of the sessions outlined above. Topics most sought include EW and associated capability briefs especially those dealing with integration; operational experiences; EW in the Maritime, Land, Air, Space and Information/Cyber domains; threat briefs; force, platform and area protection including C-IED; briefs on Cyber, networked enabled capability, information operations and ISR, technology advances and new concepts. Help will be available to potential speakers throughout the planning, preparation and presentation if required.

Abstracts are due Wednesday, August 14 in order to enable timely visa applications. Submissions should be made to AOC Director Global Operations, John Clifford, clifford@crows.org, who can also be contacted with any inquiries about the conference program.

THE TIME IS NOW: Support the AOC at the 50th Annual International Symposium and Convention

Due to sequestration and curtailed government and military travel, the 50th Annual AOC International Symposium & Convention, October 27-30, is one of the few chances your company will have in 2013 for vital face-to-face interaction with your Spectrum Warfare suppliers and customers. It is the most cost-effective vehicle for en-masse discussions between you and the military.

To adapt to this new fiscal reality, the AOC recently announced complimentary Symposium registration to both military personnel AND government civilians. Because of the large concentration of military and government personnel around the Washington, D.C. Beltway, this local Symposium will prove to be a widely attended mission-critical meeting of industry, academia, military and government. To accomplish this momentous event, the AOC community needs your support now more than ever.

Sponsorship makes an important statement about your company’s role in supporting our industry. It marks who the leaders are without regard to size and it offers benefits that are difficult to obtain elsewhere.

We welcome your ideas for tailoring any sponsorships or developing something new to fit your needs. Plan early for the best availability and exposure. Visit the Additional Branding Opportunities page to learn how your company can get involved for as little as $500!

REGISTRATION OPEN NOW: AOC 2013 Land EW Conference: Innovation and Demonstration, December 10-11

Due to protracted acquisitions and traditional doctrinal warfare solutions there is a lack of exposure or appreciation for the cutting-edge innovation and technological development resulting in missed opportunities to provide warfighters the most up-to-date spectrum and information-related capabilities.

The 2013 Land EW Conference: Innovation and Demonstration will be held December 10-11 in Quantico, VA, to provide a forum for government and commercial attendees to both appreciate the latest innovations and/or witness how these tactics may be implemented.

REVERSING SEQUESTRATION REMAINS CRITICAL: Urge Your Representatives to Take Action Today!

Because of the White House and Congress’s inability to reach a deal to reverse mandatory across-the-board sequestration budget cuts, the initial round of multibillion-dollar cuts to defense and non-defense federal agencies has begun. Unless reversed, sequestration will cut defense and non-defense programs by $1 trillion over nine years. Sequestration will put at risk more than a million American jobs, including hundreds of thousands of small business jobs, and threatens to stall the economic recovery.

The public is now waking up to the consequences of sequestration. You can make a difference. Write your elected officials and urge them to reverse this bad policy.

The AOC remains committed to stopping sequestration!

I can't remember another time when electronic warfare (EW) technology was as prominent in the headlines as it has been for the last month or so. In fact, the entire notion of EW seems to be evolving to include not only traditional forms of EW such as RF communications and radar jamming, but also the relatively new discipline of cyber warfare to protect U.S. and allied computers and attack and disable enemy computers and data networks. Raytheon Co.'s win this week of a $279 million contract to continue developing the U.S. Navy’s new radar-jamming system holds promise for more: It clears the way for as much as $7.4 billion in future work, according to Navy officials. Raytheon beat a bid from Northrop Grumman Corp. in tandem with Exelis Inc. and another led by BAE Systems Plc to advance into a "technology demonstration" phase for the Next Generation Jammer. U.S. Air Force researchers are ready to launch a new program next month to develop adaptive spectrum warfare technologies to enable warfighting in contested and denied areas. Officials of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Sensor's Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, last week issued a presolicitation (BAA-RQKS-2013-0003) for the Advanced Novel Spectrum Warfare Environment Research (ANSWER) program. The ANSWER program previously was known as the Net-Enabled Electronic Warfare Technologies (NEWT) program.

A robotic plane landed, took off and landed again on an aircraft carrier off the Virginia coast Wednesday, catapulting the Navy into the next generation of aviation. It's an historical moment, on par with the first flight Eugene Ely made off a ship in 1910. The Navy Secretary who watched it all go down couldn't help but be ebullient about presiding over the sea service on a day that made history. (Foreign Policy)

The Department of Defense produces reams of procurement documents, and the vast majority of them are mind-numbingly dull. And then there is Justification and Approval document No. 1312, which the Navy quietly issued in January. This request, the kind of document the Pentagon generates to seek permission to award a contract without competition, seeks an electronic warfare system that can protect ships from "a newly discovered threat." June is the start of the rainy season in the South Pacific, six months of storms that come in fast and unpredictable. And when the wind starts blowing, that takes its toll on U.S. intelligence-gathering far off in North Korea. The US Navy owns the only operational tactical jamming fighters in the world, but the AN/ALQ-99 pods they depend on use analog technologies, are hard to maintain, and have reliability issues. All-digital technologies and modern transmit/receive electronics offer huge leaps ahead in capability and availability, which is why the US military is working on a Next-Generation Jammer (NGJ) replacement for the pods on its tactical strike aircraft. The EA-18G Growler will be the NGJ’s first platform, but the flexibility of modern technologies mean that it may not be the last. (Defense Industry Daily)
