EW Technical Courses – Eagle Auditorium – Museum of Aviation

8 am: Good Processes Support Getting Software Right – Jeanne Balsam, Mark Pelligrini, Scott Banks, GTRI
This presentation includes a discussion of some common software development models. The pros and cons of each are discussed, with the emphasis being that regardless of the model used, there are fundamental activities that must be performed, and performed correctly, for the development effort to be successful. The presentation then focuses on two key areas: configuration management and peer reviews.

Introductory Course on Design of Experiments (DOE) for Testing EW Systems – Steve "Flash" Gordon, GTRI
This course is an overview of why DOE is used, how to set up an experimental design, how to run it, and what types of information can be derived about the system under test. Memos from DOT&E and DDT&E that mandate the use of DOE or other scientific methods in T&E will be discussed. A catapult that shoots balls across the room will be used as an example system under test. The DOE methods used for the catapult represent the same steps needed to test a jammer receiving and responding to threat signals.

Issues in the Management and Analysis of Large Engineering Data Sets – Chris Fowler, GTRI
The expanding acquisition capabilities and capacities of instrumentation recording systems are generating an ever-increasing quantity of engineering data. The diminishing costs of storage hardware contribute to an explosion in data available for retention. Without a method to recall selective data from storage and extract meaning from that data, the utility of an increasing data store diminishes as the size of the data store increases.

Management Courses – 3rd Floor Eagle Conference Room

8 am: "Stopping Progress": How management processes prevent fundamental innovation in the public sector, Kent Mueller, Boeing

10 am: DoD Life Cycle Management (LCM) and Product Support Manager (PSM) Rapid Development Training, Greg Lewis, DAU

1 pm: Effective Techniques for Managing EW-related Proposals. Chet Lowe, Lowe Consulting and George McCulley, WBDS

3 pm: Proposal Management: Pricing Evaluation. Mark Wallentine, WR-ALC
