LIVE ONLINE LEARNING: AOC Professional Development Goes Virtual

The AOC launched its first online professional development course with "Electromagnetic Battle Management (EMBM) Concepts" on February 26, 2014. This three-hour live web course, instructed by Mr. Lynn Berg, reviewed doctrinal concepts and current processes in EW and Spectrum Management that lay the foundation for future EW/EM Battle Management architectures.

Last year, the AOC was quick to adapt to the new fiscal environment by introducing virtual events delivered through the AOC Virtual Series. Building on the success of the Virtual Series and with the demand for more virtual learning opportunities still on the rise, the AOC has introduced web courses. This type of format gives participants the opportunity to take part in valuable professional development without the travel costs associated with traditional classroom learning. Several February 26 students said, "Very good job. Really appreciate that you are offering these courses via the web. ... This format was great in our budget constraint environment."

The 50 registrants had the opportunity to access and download course materials, view documents and links provided by the instructor, and ask questions of the instructor during the course. An attendee noted "The software used to host the course was good. I like the option to raise your hand."

With regard to content, one attendee with more than five years of experience in EW stated: "I think this was a great introductory course. The material touched on a number of areas that I have a strong interest in." Another participant said, "... I found [the content] to be very relevant, especially to newer personnel within the military as EWBM is the way ahead and truly does need to be addressed. I'm sure EWBM will eventually move to the forefront of EW discussions so in the meantime exposure to courses like this will be welcomed."

Additional web courses are planned for 2014 and will be announced once finalized.
