AOC is mourning Bjorn M. Fjallstam, Swedish-born engineer and Crow who passed away in September. Bjorn may be most famous for his architectural design contributions to the development of the DV Mk III, the first RWR processor to be based on the use of Large Scale Integration technology for the microprocessor-based miniaturized signal analysis computer that was to become the basis for the AN/APR-39A Radar Warning System, arguably the largest and longest production run in the history of the art.

However, more important was Bjorn's innovative leadership of the "Mongoose" team at Dalmo Victor in the early 1970s that designed, developed and produced the circuit boards, embedded firmware and ground-breaking source code that led to the production of the processor for the AN/ALR-46A, the first software reprogrammable real-time digital signal processor to be used by our industry. This seminal accomplishment was later documented by Mr. Fjallstam as co-author of the book "Threat Warning for Tactical Aircraft, A Technical History of the Evolution from Analog to Digital Systems," published by Xlibris Corp.

Fjallstam is survived by his wife, Ingela, and his sons, Pontius, Jonas and Thomas. Messages of appreciation and condolence may be forwarded to his family via fjallstam@gmail.com.
