TIDEWATER CHAPTER: EWICE Update With Lt. Gen. William Rew
On April 17, 2013, the Tidewater Chapter hosted a luncheon at Langley AFB with special guest speaker Lt. Gen. William Rew, the vice commander of Air Combat Command. Lt. Gen. Rew spoke about the "Effective Warfighting in Contested Environments" (EWICE) study that he chaired. Also in attendance was Lt. Gen. Bob Elder (USAF Ret.), the AOC president, who has been integral to the EWICE study, as well as Dr. Janet Fender, who is the scientific advisor to the commander of Air Combat Command. She was also the EWICE study director.

Lt. Gen. Rew presented a great summary of the EWICE study, which looked at the need to focus on problems and solutions related to operating effectively across the EMS in a contested environment. Lt. Gen. Rew pointed out the recent focus of warfare has been in a mostly permissive environment with little or no threat to the EMS, our information, and command and control systems. The EWICE study is focused on, access and use of the EMS in future conflicts in permissive, contested and highly contested environments.
