On Tuesday, March 9, 2010 the Palmetto Roost Chapter together with the SPAWAR/Industry Team hosted a special presentation by Captain Brian E. Hinkley, USN, Director of Fleet Electronic Warfare Center (FEWC) – Navy Cyber Forces (NAVCYBERFOR). A meeting and reception took place at Scientific Research Corporation (SRC) in North Charleston, South Carolina. Captain Hinkley detailed the success of controlling the Electromagnetic Spectrum in Iraq, in addition to Electromagnetic Spectrum Operations, Management, Technology & Engineering applications throughout other domains. The captain expressed the need to "control the Electromagnetic Spectrum" at a time and place of our choosing as EW continues to grow as a strategic necessity for every conflict in future warfare. Chapter President Rich Nelson of Life Cycle Engineering (LCE) presided over the event with more than 50 Crows and guests in attendance. To close the event, as an extension of the EW registry featured in the December 2009 issue of JED, a local registry was provided to Captain Hinkley by the Palmetto Roost Chapter.

The captain's visit continued the next day with a tour of SPAWAR Charleston hosted by Mike Shafer, SPAWAR Division Head for Information Operations and Joint and National Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance. The day's activities included a meeting with Captain Bruce Urbon, SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic's Commanding Officer, and SPAWAR Technical Director, Mr. Chris Miller, as well as a tour of some of the command facilities including:
  • An Integrated Product Center (IPC Lab) OverviewEW situational awareness, common operating picture, Service-Oriented Architecture capabilities
