January 27-28, 2009: "EW 2.0: Dominating the New Spectrum"

The Mugu Crows Chapter of the Association of Old Crows, with support from the Naval Base Ventura County and the National Association of Old Crows (AOC), is sponsoring the 39th Technical Symposium at Point Mugu, CA, January 27-28, 2009. This year's theme, "EW 2.0: Dominating the New Spectrum," is shaping up to be a very exciting and important Electronic Warfare (EW) meeting. The Mugu Crows Chapter expects to bring together an outstanding and diverse group of representatives from the Department of Defense, government, industry and military, and engineers, researchers and managers interested in the future of EW.

This annual classified symposium brings, to the West Coast, insight into the electronic attack elements being developed for the Department of Defense. Key topics include:

            The Warfighter Perspective

            EW Integration and Improvement Program

RF 2.0: New Trends in RF Electronic Warfare

Office of Naval Research Science and Technology Programs

            Offensive Electronic Attack Trends

EO/IR 2.0: New Trends in EO/IR Electronic Warfare

            EO/IR Self-protection

            Non-kinetic Warfare

            MAGTF EW

            EW Training Solutions

            EW Collaboration

            Interfacing with our Allies

            EW Modeling and Simulation

Unmanned Air Vehicle Role in EW

The speakers come from the developers, managers, operators and planners of today's systems by tomorrow's users.

This year's symposium also will include unclassified exhibits in hangar 3009, open to all, and will display several old war birds, UAVs, NAWCWD Program & Project (Airborne Threat Simulation Office, Airborne Electronic Attack, Mission Planning and others) and industry representation from ITT Electronic Systems, Argon ST Active Systems Division, KOR Electronics, CSC Naval Air Systems, Regional Defense Partnership 21st Century, Toastmasters International, VsolvIT – GIS & Database Management and the Association For Unmanned Vehicle Systems International.

The Mugu Crows Chapter of the AOC has been serving the EW community on the Oxnard plain since 1964, bringing together designers, developers, testers and operators. The Chapter's professional EW membership is active in developing EW equipment for protection and training of fleet personnel. Current efforts include the Integrated Deceptive Countermeasures system, the EA-6B, the EA-18G, Target ECM simulators and EW techniques development.

EW is an ever-changing scenario, as technologies and capability are developed to counter the improved capability of an adversary's Integrated Air Defense System. The end game is the air superiority of US forces to protect airborne and surface forces. Key to this continued development, is the interchange of ideas and technology within the Electronic Community and operational forces. Recognizing this, the Naval Air Systems Command and the Naval Base Ventura County have been strong supporters of the Technical Symposium. You are encouraged to attend and participate in this interchange of ideas in January. The symposium information and registration forms can be found on the Mugu Crows' website (www.mugucrows.org/symposium/).

The AOC is a national EW professional society, working together to provide protection to the US Armed Forces. Mark Schallheim, president of the Mugu Crows Chapter and AEA/EA-6B IPT Site Lead, noted the symposium is dedicated to funding scholarships for high school seniors and college students pursuing scientific and engineering degrees. In 2008, with the help of the local Missile Technology and History Association, three $1000 scholarships were given out to gifted young people from the local community. You are invited to become an active part of this dynamic community, and information on joining is on the Mugu Crows Chapter's website at www.mugucrows.org. If you have questions about the chapter's organization and goals, call any Board Member or Officer listed on the website.
