This is a two part webinar. The first half was presented on 11 January 2018. It covered the basics of Earth satellite orbits: Ephemerides, Earth satellite orbit mechanics, spherical trigonometry, look angle and range formulas for satellites and horizon range formulas. You might want to review part one before viewing part 2. The second part of this webinar series goes on to deal with the vulnerability of Earth satellite links and some formulas related to the operation of intercept and jamming payloads.

 

Two-day classified event to provide a forum for EMW professionals from the military, government, industry, and academic fields to discuss:

1. How our adversaries are challenging our dominance in the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS)
2. Current EMW capabilities being explored to ensure our dominance is maintained
3. Integration of capabilities into a warfare system

CALL FOR PAPERS

Call for papers topics include: 

Focus Question 1: How can combined EMW capabilities in the sea, air, and land domains generate enhanced combat effects?
Focus Question 2: How can a system of systems focus enhance EMW capabilities?
Focus Question 3: How will coordination and simultaneous integration across all domains (land, sea, subsurface, air, space, and cyber) improve EMW capabilities?
Focus Question 4: What tools, processes, innovations, techniques, and best practices can be used to support management professionals in today’s unique and complex acquisition environment?

Abstracts for presentations are required in unclassified textual format. Please forward abstracts to Amy Belicev at belicev@crows.org. Abstracts are due 02 July 2019.

On the Road to Army of 2028 - Delivering Integrated EW, SIGINT and Cyber at the Tactical Echelon.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Original papers are being solicited from the United States and Five Eyes Nations, Government, Academia, Industry, Operational Units, and Subject Matter Experts on how to fight and win decisively against any adversary in a joint, multi-domain, high-intensity conflict through employment of Cyber Electromagnetic Activity (CEMA) capabilities. We will continue to expand the CEMA discussion from a doctrine, operational, technology, and threat perspective and how to integrate electronic warfare, cyber, signals intelligence, information operations, and other forms of non-kinetic fires into operational formations. Conference presentations may be classified TS/SCI US Only or REL FVEY, or Secret Releasable FVEY. 

Paper submissions should unclassified and indicate the level of classification for presentation, and focus on the following topic areas:

In order to design effective countermeasures – ones that produce significant miss distance – an understanding of the target of those countermeasures is required. In most cases that target is a tracking radar, which this webinar will seek to explain in order to promote an understanding of the interaction between the signal a radar receives and the track it creates. 

The presentation will start with a discussion of the radar as sensor and how it measures the range, Doppler, azimuth and elevation to a target. The values quantified by the radar will then be explored in the context of tracking systems, from simple α-β trackers to Kalman filters and more.

Finally, these tracking systems will be brought together in the context of modern Single-Target Tracking (STT) radars and Track-While-Scan (TWS) systems. Examples of STT and TWS systems will be discussed, along with how they could effectively be deceived.

They operate in the shadows, hidden in research and development laboratories, but the Old Crows are at the forefront of electronic warfare (EW) and other operations in the electromagnetic spectrum.

The Aardvark Roost, the South African Chapter of the Association of Old Crows (AOC), is an organisation for individuals who have a common interest in electronic warfare and activities such as cyber electromagnetic activities, electromagnetic spectrum management operations, information operations and other information related capabilities.

The theme for the UNCLASSIFIED portion of the 2019 Pacific Information Operations Symposium, “Countering Coercion: The Role of Information Operations,” examines the Indo-Pacific Information Environment (IE) to understand how coercion and malign influence diminish the effectiveness of deterrence. Following last year’s symposium focus on how Information Operations could support effective deterrence, this year’s theme will examine how comprehensive coercion undermines effective deterrence of adversaries and assurance of allies and partners. The symposium will examine how to counter the erosive effects of coercion and malign influence from weakening or negating friendly force inform and influence efforts, preserving confidence in the cohesion of our Alliances and national capabilities to defend sovereignty from multiple attack vectors.

CALL FOR PAPERS

USINDOPACOM J39 and the Association of Old Crows (AOC) are soliciting original unclassified English language presentations and/or papers for the 8th Pacific IO Symposium / USINDOPACOM IO Symposium from subject matter experts in the United States, and Allied and partner militaries (or ministries of defense/security), as well as from academia and industry on the symposium theme.

Presentations must be UNCLASSIFIED, or FOUO releasable for the unclassified sessions. Presentations for classified sessions at Camp Smith (October 11th) should be at the SECRET REL/FVEY level.

When the Russian military attacked Ukraine, it prevented units from communicating with each other by turning to powerful electronic jamming tools. The U.S. Army, however, is not interested in the same raw demonstration of force. Instead, U.S. officials are following a philosophy that relies on “surgical” attacks. (C4ISRNET)

  

Lockheed Martin took the unusual step June 12 of issuing a point-by-point rebuttal of a press report describing deficiencies with the F-35 family of aircraft. The company claimed that deficiency issues identified in reporting by Defense News on June 12 are each “well understood, already resolved or on a near-term path to resolution.” (Air Force Magazine)

  

The Defense Department and Lockheed Martin have reached a tentative agreement on the next lot of F-35s, with options for a multi-year buy worth about $34 billion for 478 aircraft total, including foreign partners and customers. As reported by Air Force Magazine, the agreement covers production Lot 12, with options for Lots 13 and 14. (The National Interest)

  

The US pushed further to exclude one long-term partner in the F-35 program the same day as it publicly reached out to another potential customer with a June 12 flyover in downtown Washington. The F-35 Joint Program Office took the first step in “unwinding” its relationship with Turkey by excluding the country from a meeting of program chief executive officers in Arlington, Va. because the nation plans to buy the Russian S-400 air defense system over the objections of its NATO and F-35 partners. (Air Force Magazine)

  

The U.S. Army has still not settled on an active protection system, or APS, for its Stryker wheeled armored vehicles, despite having evaluated four different options in the last two and a half years. The service is now eying additional tests of two of those systems, a medium-weight variant of Israeli firm Rafael's combat-proven Trophy and the Active Defense System from Germany's Rheinmetall. (The Drive)
