Electronic Countermeasures (ECM) and Electronic Attacks (EA) are often understood only in the abstract sense, with most EW professionals having little comprehension of the process required to design an effective attack against a given threat. The goal of this webinar is to illuminate that process, showing how threats are analyzed, ECM techniques designed, and their parameters optimized against tracking radars. This presentation will focus on range, frequency, and angle techniques as they apply to Digital Radio Frequency Memory (DRFM) jammers. Once the technique design process is understood, the combination of various ECM will be explored to create more effective attacks.

This and other material dealing with the theory and design of ECM will be covered by Kyle Davidson during a course he will be delivering on the Friday and Saturday following the 53rd Annual AOC International Symposium & Convention in Washington, DC.

AOC 2nd Annual STEM Outreach Program: November 30-December 1, DC Convention Center
The AOC will host a STEM Program in conjunction with the 53rd Annual AOC International Symposium and Convention. This program will focus on students interested in potential STEM careers. This program will feature engaging and informative presentations by an exclusive group of professionals who aim to empower and inspire students about careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. AOC ADVOCACY UPDATE: AOC Focuses on FY 2017 NDAA as Congress Prepares for Lame Duck Session
With Congress in recess until a post-election lame duck session, AOC Advocacy is turning its attention to the impending FY 2017 NDAA Conference Report and preparing for a very busy start to the new 115th Congress in January. Ken Miller, AOC Advocacy Consultant, has been engaging Members of Congress and staff, including exchanges with professional staff on the House and Senate Armed Services Committees (HASC and SASC), regarding important EW and Directed Energy (DE) provisions in both House and Senate versions of the NDAA. While there was hope that Congress could agree upon a Conference Report in September 2016, no agreement was reached and the new outlook is for a final agreement late in the lame duck session before the holidays. AOC will update members as soon as information becomes publicly available.

The U.S. Air Force wants to go beyond the traditional ground control station controlling a single aircraft and manage swarms of unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) with the wave of a hand. The Marine Corps is in the hunt for a mega-drone that can take off and land vertically and deploy aboard ship — all while carrying a serious amount of firepower. The service is asking a lot as it develops its MUX platform, short for Marine air-ground task force unmanned expeditionary capabilities, with plans to reach initial operational capability by 2026. The Corps’ deputy commandant for aviation, Lt. Gen. Jon "Dog" Davis, said Wednesday at the Unmanned Systems Defense conference in Arlington, Virginia, that this future platform — a Group 5, the largest class of military drone — will be equipped to fight from sea as well as land. As Russia continues to act aggressively in the Baltic Sea, the United States and Sweden need to focus on ways to improve military collaboration, a new analysis says. The report, authored by Magnus Nordenman, director of the Atlantic Council’s Transatlantic Security Initiative, also concludes that the U.S. needs to play a part in triangulating technological and strategic development among allies in the region, drawing on the bilateral relationships it shares with nations such as Sweden and Finland in order to increase regional security. This year saw the first test of a major shift in acquisition law, pushed by Sen. John McCain, to place more power in the hands of the four armed services. When the bill was still being debated, the Pentagon’s top acquisition official, Frank Kendall, warned that McCain’s move to boost the power of the service chiefs to manage Pentagon weapons programs was coming at the "worst time" and could lead to increased costs and busted schedules. F-35 pilots will eventually be able to control a small group of drones flying nearby from the air, performing sensing, reconnaissance and targeting functions, according to Air Force Chief Scientist Greg Zacharias. Currently the flight path, sensor payload and weapons disposal of airborne drones such as Predators and Reapers are coordinated from ground control stations. In the future, however, drones may be fully operated from the cockpit of advanced fighter jets such as the Joint Strike Fighter or F-22, Zacharias said several months ago in an interview.
