Lockheed Martin Corp. executives on Tuesday said they expected to receive a letter of request from Israel for purcahses of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter 'within days' after working out a solution that will allow Israel to expand the jet's electronic warfare capability. (Reuters)

Britain will look at the capabilities of Raytheon's Miniature Air Launched Decoy. A Raytheon official said the US and British governments had recently signed a technical assistance agreement to allow a demonstration of the jet powered vehicle. (Defense News)

The Navy's EA-18G Growler has a new name - at least on the radio. The electronic attack aircraft that joined the fleet last year will be known as a "Grizzly" on aircraft carriers worldwide. (Navy Times)

Study work has been carried out examining the benefits of fitting a low-observable electronic warfare pod to the Lockheed Martin F-35 to further boost the aircraft's electronic combat capability, according to a US Marine Corps officer. (Aviation Week)

A fiber laser DIRCM developed by Israel's Elbit and Italy's Elettronica that claims greater reliability over traditional laser equivalents will be delivered to the first customer in 2010, an official said. (Defense News)

A new Air Force surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft has successfully completed its debut combat mission. The MC-12 Liberty is a turboprop aircraft with a specialized four-person crew that provides full-motion video and signals intelligence. (Stars and Stripes)

Each unit aboard Al Asad Air Base, Iraq, has to be ready at a moment's notice, to protect its facilities and personnel from unforeseen situations such as a bomb threat or an enemy intruder in their area. These Quick Reaction Forces are not established and set aside on standby to wait for a conflict. (News Blaze)

The defence ministry has set up a panel to implement the recommendations of a high-powered committee on restructuring the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). (Thaindian News)
