AOC is seeking technical papers and posters for the 2009 International Convention & Symposium October 18-21 in Washington, DC. This year's theme is "Modernizing EW: Balancing Costs and Capability." Papers are due June 15. Posters are due October 1.
Air Force officials announced that Maj. Gen. Richard E. Webber, currently the Assistant Deputy Chief for Air, Space and Information Operations, Plans and Requirements, Headquarters US Air Force, will assume command of 24th Air Force, a newly numbered Air Force focused on the cyber mission. The US Missile Defence Agency's long awaited blaster-cannon-in-a-jumbo-jet, the Airborne Laser (ABL), now is carrying out in-flight test zappings. Reports suggest that the actual laser is doing well so far, but that the carrying 747 is suffering technical problems having been grounded for a lengthy period while its energy weapon was fitted. The Air Force's delay in deploying MC-12W spy planes to Afghanistan could hamper a summer offensive planned against the Taliban, a spokesman for Defense Secretary Robert Gates said. The first MC-12W arrived in theater June 1, but 23 others scheduled to deploy later this year have fallen as much as four months behind schedule. (Air Force Times)
