What's New
The Emerging EW Technologies Conference, held June 16-18 in Atlanta, GA, features three days of top-level speakers at an affordable price. The conference is classified SECRET/US Only, so register today.

More battlefield communications capabilities, jammers, infrared satellites and F-35 spares and support equipment are among the $1.9 billion in unfunded priorities for the US Air Force along with the fiscal 2010 budget request sent to Congress this month. (Aviation Week)

The administration is following through on its campaign pledge to cut wasteful spending at the Pentagon. But the price is high. After putting numerous programs on the chopping block, the government now is going through the painful process of paying contractors for the work it won't get -- what the Pentagon calls "termination costs." (Politico)

Changes the Air Force recently made in its cyber makeup won't detract from missions at Barksdale Air Force Base and may in fact help them, a top general told a group of local and national cyber boosters here Wednesday. (Shreveport Times)

Devices to launch and control cyber, electronic and information attacks are being tested and refined by the US military and industry in preparation for moving out of the laboratory and into the warfighter's backpack. (Aviation Week)

India is negotiating the purchase of three more Airborne Early Warning and Control Systems (AWACS) from Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), a Defence Ministry official here said. (Defense News)

The true scale of the damage wreaked on the UK and NATO by a notorious Cold War traitor has been disclosed for the first time. Geoffrey Prime, a former GCHQ spy, sold secrets to the KGB revealing that Britain and America had cracked high-grade Soviet military codes, according to a new book. (The Times of London)

Adm. Michael Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, recently raised eyebrows by noting that China is "developing capabilities" that "seem very focused on the United States Navy and our bases that are in that part of the world." There's actually nothing new here. In fact, what Adm. Mullen said (and more) is described in the Pentagon's latest report on the military power of China. It also was in last year's report, and 2007's report, and 2006's, and 2005's and every report the Pentagon has issued since it began the practice back in 2000. (Weekly Standard)
