The US Navy will name a USNS T-AGM 25-missile range instrumentation ship after Howard O. Lorenzen, a Naval Research Laboratory engineer who helped develop the nation's first portable radar equipment and led the team that, in 1960, created the payload of the nation's first spy satellite. A Defense Department task force thinks the US Strategic Command has taken on too many new missions that detract from its historic, vital role as leader of US nuclear deterrence, and is recommending that it shed some of its new responsibilities, including its role as the top US military organization for waging war in cyberspace. The 34th Annual Dixie Crow Symposium, "EW Transformation, New Technology for Operational Systems," takes place at the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins, GA, March 22-26.
